Why Isn't Anyone Filling Out My Questionnaire? Here Are Three Key Tips to Fix It
As business owners, we've all been there. You've created a shiny new form for your freebie or questionnaire for your onboarding — only to find that no one is filling it out. Frustrating, right? 😩
Well, let’s dive into why that might be happening and, more importantly, how to fix it.
1. Before anything else, ask yourself: Did I test it?
I know it sounds basic, but it’s so often overlooked. Go through the process yourself—click on the landing page, fill out the form, and ensure everything works smoothly. You want to be sure your users are landing on the right thank-you page, receiving the right emails, and having an error-free experience.
While you’re at it, think like a user. For example, if it’s a simple freebie form and you’re asking for their phone number, consider if that might scare them off. Remove unnecessary fields (or make them optional) to make it easier and quicker for them to fill out the form.
2. Prepare Them for the Process
If the form is longer, say for onboarding or a detailed report, make sure you’ve prepped your users. Are they ready to fill out in-depth information?
Maybe asking about their income goals or specific project details is too much for that initial form. You can always move those questions to a follow-up call. It’s about reducing friction and making the experience seamless for your audience.
3. Get an Outside Perspective
Sometimes, you’re too close to your business to see the gaps. Have someone else go through the form and give you feedback. Are they stumbling over any questions? Does it take too long? They’ll catch things you may not have noticed and can offer valuable insight into user experience.
Lastly, consistency is key. Make sure that your branding, colors, and copy are cohesive from the moment someone clicks on your ad or social post to the form itself. A seamless experience builds trust and reduces confusion. If users feel they’ve landed on the wrong page, they’re likely to bounce.
By testing the form, prepping your audience, and seeking outside feedback, you'll see more conversions and fewer frustrations. And hey, if you’ve got questions about optimizing your forms or anything else tech-related, feel free to connect with me. I’d love to help!
